The BigBrosWorkshop’s first ever Massive Territory conference was held succesfully one 13th of January 2007, from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. It was such as a suprise to have world class designer to come as one in our country since after the Hearsay conference few years back. Here, we would like to share with you the post visit report of the conference.

The venue of the conference istself which located at Malaysia Tourism Centre, which I guess is really a suitable place for this time around. I guess the main reason are not only the strategic location which nearby the world-reknown Suria KLCC but of course, the facilities provided. The only complain would be the lunch hour that we’ll have to walk out to nearby shops for food.
Suprsingly, it’s really enlighting to see various young and fresh designers all around the auditorium hall, which almost quarter of the hall filled with old friends from the design/advertising industry.
Upon registration and arrival, we received a booklet, bag and brochure which we can take down notes, or autograph and where we can peel the cover and to be wore as the conference tag.
Speakers in front.
Kustaa Saksi is an awesome person which one of the designer I admired of his passion, though his work relatively different from the mainstream ones, but I guess that’s what made him so successful, of course, I missed his session way back on last year’s MIDI convention, and that I’m glad being able to attend his session this year.
Chris Lee is the Creative Director for The Asylum, and i’m impressed. He’s a humourous dude with a lot of jokes to crack. Visit their site and you’ll known what I mean.
Just right after Chris’s session, we’re about to have our lunch and so then, Scien and Klor (123Klan) had a public graffiti performance to tease us right before their session.
A very very cool combination between the duo. I mean, 123Klan was my idol when I started as a designer, and I’ve never expect to see them in person, live!
Just right outside the auditorium hall, we have one patience and passionate dude that is really concentrating in designing batik. Seriously, look at the details.
Other local designers and talent on exhibit.
Right on the day itself, the new issue of Territory magazine was released.
Here’s the Experimental Audio CD purchased by my friend. It’s an album from SonicBrat (Singapore) CD Cover designed by The Asylum. Mind you, ‘experimental’. There’s an interesting story behind the creation of the CD Label and identity which this guy (SonicBrat) met up with Chris on their shop (The Asylum) one day wanting to ask for permission in selling his CD.
Scien & Klor’s session. They’re bunch of cool dudes. I’m suprised from their session, to know that they even produced a game exclusively for PSP! Gotta check em out. And I’ve got their sticker pack! Check back DE regularly as I’ll give it away as lucky draw prize.
The Kinetic Singapore, spotted on sight are (from left to right) Jonathan Yuen, Jason and Pann. (I got short term, amnesia, let me know if I got them wrong). I was in awe to see how much details they have always determined in every projects they did.
And we also have W+K Tokyo Lab on the show, they had a lot of wicked work most of the time. They even shared thier process on making HIFANA’s Wamono and Afra’s Digital Breath. Different, I would say.

And finally, we have the man, Joshua Davis that got almost everyone on the hall into his session. I have always dreamt of having to attend his session. A cool yet humorous that kept us really bursting in laughter all the while. And hands down that everyone agrees that he’s really a passionate guy in things he does. I wouldn’t spoil much on what he mentioned on the conference but if you’re attending the upcoming Massive Territory in Jakarta, I would really suggest you to pay extra attention on it and enjoy.
The infamous Q&A session. The conference is really an inspiring though we felt mildly disappointed that Niko Stumpo wouldn’t able to join us and share his thoughts. In conclusion, I guess it’s really a great start ahead for the design community in Malaysia to grow even further. And we can see a clearer picture of every design from different media has to come together as one, be it interactive, print or advertising, it’s a hybrid-era now. We have always even hope to have other major conference organiser to come and create more opportunity for both senior and young designers inspired.
