The organizing committee of the International Symposium of Electronic Arts 2008 (ISEA2008) with generous support from the National University of Singapore (NUS), is soliciting proposals from New Media artists to work collaboratively with NUS centers of research and arts in preparation of work to be submitted for exhibition during the July 2008 ISEA in Singapore. Unlike previous symposia where there was a separate call for artists in residence and one of art works for exhibition, ISEA2008 will only have one call for artists’ submission. The submissions selected for the AIR will also be subsequently produced and shown in the main ISEA exhibition. Submissions from countries and cultures underrepresented at other New Media venues are particularly encouraged.
Residencies of up to 3 months in duration can be supported, and must be completed before July 2008. Financial support from NUS is available for:
- Economy airfare to and from the artist/designers country of residence,
- University housing while the artist is in Singapore,
- A monthly allowance of S$2000,
- Materials cost of up to S$1000.

Radiohead - Creep
If my memory serves me well, this Flash animation ages more than 3 years old back. It was revolutionary to be honest on that time when Flash 8 is not present, and all the killer masking effect inside, it must have took a whole lot of work to deal with just masking the body of the person. Thanks soonyee.

Roland is God
I’m not sure why there is a tendency of my post today digging back old sources of inspiration, but that doesn’t matter since all great work got inspired back from history itself. Roland Young, an amazing designer, cum lecturer. Respect. So what happen here is that after this is recorded, which I suspect and still remembered that there are more than 10 clips on the site, which is now only the trailer, probably someone asked the site owner to take it off, due to an extend the videos are so popular that even Roland’s son found out about this video and watch it in his own house! For the good cause.

Using An Undo Option
At times it might so true that we will go stunned and shocked for a split second from clicking “ok” when a popup comes up during your work inside a document and wondered what it was. Realizing that it was probably asking if you want to delete the file. That is when warning messages can go wrong. Another interesting read on how you can craft a frame-lookalike website that doesn’t use any frame at all, and it works on all browser.

Tiger Translate
Built and established more than 70 years ago in Singapore, despite having a strong brand pushing on breweries, they have been continously also providing a platform for artists and designers alike to showcase their talent and works.

Running for 2 years now, Tiger Translate aimed to push creative boundaries by calling for design or artwork submissions in any form, under a theme every time. Though the submission are closed for now with the last one was MERGE, the upcoming theme is PING PONG. Thanks Sweii for the tips.

Thank You
Direct and effective.
“The hardest part of design, especially consumer electronics,” says Norman, “is keeping features out.” Simplicity, he says, is in itself a product differentiator, and pursuing it can lead to innovation.
“Attractive things work better,” says Don Norman, who was vice president of advanced technology at Apple from 1993 to 1998. “When you wash and wax a car, it drives better, doesn’t it? Or at least feels like it does.”
